Set up HubSpot to obtain user consent

To capture valuable insights while protecting user privacy, you need to collect consent from your website users. We recommend you use a Consent Management Platform (CMP) or work with your Content Management System (CMS) to collect consent and send it to Google.

Learn more about how to Set up your consent banner with a consent management platform or a content management system.

Step 1: Set up a consent banner

  1. From your HubSpot account, click the Settings gear icon on the top toolbar.
  2. On the left side panel, click Privacy & Consent.
  3. Click the Cookies tab.
  4. Select a HubSpot-hosted domain, or click Add an external domain to add an externally-hosted domain.
  5. On the "Domain" page, click Create consent banner.
  6. On the “Configuration” page, give your banner an internal name.
  7. Specify a path under “URL Path” if you want your banner to only apply to that URL. Leave the path blank to apply the banner to the entire domain.
  8. Under “Countries”, select the countries in the European Union, European Economic Area, and the United Kingdom.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Choose an “Opt-in” banner type. Click Publish.

Step 2: Set up consent mode

Verify your consent mode set up

If you have an opt-in banner, consent mode is set up. If you have an opt-out banner already and you want to use consent mode you’ll need to follow these steps below:

  1. Open the Actions dropdown, then click Edit.
  2. Choose an “Opt-in” banner type.
  3. Click Choose a language and select a language from the dropdown list.
  4. Edit the banner text content by opening the collapsable “Consent banner content” and “Consent banner categories” headings. Links and additional information can be added during this step to be displayed to website visitors.
  5. Click Publish.
